THIS MONTHS KING FEATURE:
CLEVE
'PJ' RICHARDS
AroundTheWay: I've known you for a couple of years now just coming to the barbershop and following you on Face-book. You are always doing something positive and I also like the clothing line you've started.
Tell us about it and what inspired you?
CLEVE 'PJ: I was born in Springfield Illinois Jan 27 1981 never had much but I knew how to make due with all I had. I was a troubled child stayed in something I know I kept my Moms busy. I was the rebellious child run away, loved fighting and I had 8 aunts and two uncles a mom and grandparents so I got plenty of beatings LOL. My father was killed while I was inside the womb so as I got older I seen my share of killings and near death experiences almost lost 20 years of my life messing with drugs far from a dummy three degrees art , science and business management I just wanted to do something different I was always around it (drugs) and never thought about it until I made it to my sophomore year in high school and I seen how easy the money came (crack) easy money but brings a lot of jail time. If I could get one message across to our youth go to school get an education and work for everything you want drugs won’t solve anything. I was looking at 20 year for taking the wrong avenue to make money. Never take the easy way out for anything.
** Creative Roots Clothing actually originated Feb 2010 the initials CR actually derived from my name Cleve Richards. I was influenced to create my own line one day after I had been laid off for the second time. Sitting at the table one evening and I was drawing in my note pad and said I want my own clothing line and as I said that I came up with Creative Roots Clothing and the I started thinking I can had a name without a logo so I took two cent signs and mixed and mangled them together to make the logo for my line which is a C and a R. From there I had $100 I took that money and bought 14 T shirts and put 100 Ones on the front and the logo on the back and sold each T Shirt for 20 dollars from that 14 shirts I went to 50 from 50 to 150 then started making hats ,jackets, leggings , sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies, and never looked back. I've met some of the most famous artists, movie stars, and influential people by just following my dreams and not giving up for anything the motto MIND OVER MATERIAL WHERE GREAT MINDS AND FASHION MEET. THE MEANING OF CREATIVE ROOTS 'creative individuals destined to succeed!!'
AroundTheWay: You also have a Virtuous Woman group on Face-book what inspired you to start the group?
Cleve 'PJ' : The Virtuous Women group was started when I first
moved to Texas. One day I sat back and watched a young lady no older than 12 or
13 struggle in class to do a simple math problem but could tell me about every
purse or shoe there was on the market. When it came to liking boys and things
of that nature she was ahead of the game. So I asked the question “who do you
turn to when you need to know about something?” She said I don’t have anyone to
talk to when it comes to boys or lady things. So from that point forward I said
to myself if there’s anything I can do to help our youth I’m all for it. So I
made the group Virtuous Woman for the women to empower or to be a helping hand
to these young ladies and be a positive role model because we are losing our
youth fast to these streets and I know if they had that mentor to show them things
could be better.
AroundTheWay: What other great things do you have
currently going on right now?
Cleve ‘PJ’: I also
have a group called Men of Virtue. I created this group to inform our men that
our young men need that role model or father figure also we should do more to
inspire our youth because in today’s society they don’t have a lot to inspired
them music videos , flashy cars and drugs our taking over our youth. We must
show better in order to make better.
Working on a fashion show
for our youth ages 3-13 coming soon.
